Accepting Team Payments

I have been organizing chess tournaments for 25 years, running literally thousands of events. While I love the atmosphere of the chess tournament days, the administration and collection of entry fees is painful. And no registration fees are harder to manage than in a team event. Accepting team payments from a Captain or one-by-one from players is a reconciliation nightmare!

But not any more! We have just released our Team Payments functionality and I can’t express how much time and effort is saved when players and captains are able to register directly into the pairing program AND have all your payments tracked in one place.

Setting up team payments

You need to have an Organization account on Tornelo (it’s free!), and you need to connect your Stripe or PayPal account before you can accept payments.

Once you are setup, simply choose “Entry fees for teams” in the Event settings, under Online entries:

Set up Team Payments in the Event settings

You can maximise your entry fee revenue by combining a Team Fee and a Per Player Fee. This meets the needs of almost any scenario.

  • Set a fee of $50 per team including 6 players and $0 extra per player in a Team Match or League with 4 boards and 2 reserve players.
  • Set a fee of $20 per team including 0 players and $10 extra per player for a Team Battle with a Team Registration fee and a Per Player fee.
  • Set a fee of $0 per team including 0 players and $20 extra per player for a Team Battle where you just want to charge per player.
  • Set a fee of $100 per team including 4 players and $20 extra per player for a Team event where you want a discount to encourage more players.
  • Set a fee of $100 per team including 100 players and $0 extra for a Team leagues event where you might get lots of players coming in for just one round.

It is really up to you to come up with whatever fee structure works for your community, our job is to make it easier to collect and manage your fees so you can spend more time doing the fun stuff!

Team Payments in Registration process
Working on
  • Updating our Game Page to make the online games experience better
  • Making tables on our pages more mobile friendly
  • New data structure for Event settings, allowing templates to be created

As always, we’re keen to hear your feedback about our user friendly pairing program. How can we make your life as a chess tournament organiser, arbiter or TD, easier!

Kind regards,

DAVID CORDOVER
